The Making of a Dynamic Work Culture

I have touched on the importance of investing in human capital several times, and I have no plans to stop. The conversation of equity, team empowerment, and positive work culture must be ongoing. These are the pillars of my work. The ability to empower others will make or break your success. This was proven when I was an educator, it’s proven in the companies I currently advise and business leaders I mentor, and it will hold true for you. Empower your people and safeguard your work atmosphere!

If you want your team to flourish ensure they have the following:

  1. Trust

  2. The Ability to Make Decisions

  3. Peace

  4. Balance

Dynamic and efficient work cultures are a direct reflection of outstanding leadership. As leaders we set the atmosphere, the tone, and hold the standard. Building a dynamic work culture must be an intentional act. Positive work cultures are not naturally created simply because a room is full of bright and dedicated people. Old school management styles teach us to delegate tasks and oversee these tasks to completion. But times have changed and this dated method does not work.

Now we know better. We know that there is power in seeking partners and a team to work with us versus employees to work for us. This shift in ideology from for us to with us is the root of a dynamic work culture.

Trust

Dynamic work culture requires the absence of micromanaging. You must trust that you hired the right person and that their capabilities will help you reach your short- and long-term goals. Trust their value and their input and don’t just allow their creative ideas request and push for them! Don’t allow ideas that can change the entire direction of your entire entity to be silenced. Trust your team to produce their best work.

Raise Decision Makers

The best work culture is achieved when everyone is equipped and empowered to make sound decisions. Decision making should never be reserved for the executive suite. If your team is encouraged to be problem solvers and decision makers they create more value for themselves and become leaders. An atmosphere where everyone is capable of leading is powerful!

Peace

Every workplace deserves peace. Free of judgment, free of gossip, free of inequality, free of marginalization, free of belittlement – free of drama. Everyone should feel valued. Everyone should feel safe. If you are not intentionally establishing peace at work you are opening the door for the enemy of peace- chaos. Peace is mandatory for productivity.

Balance

The way we work has evolved over time. Working a 9-5 used to be the standard and even working around the clock being always on was expected and rewarded even if not quite productive, healthy, or balanced. Having a creative outlet or entrepreneurial venture in addition to work use to be unheard of. Fathers who take on an active nurturing role use to be a rarity. So much has changed now. Both women and men have a lot on their plate and play many significant roles outside of work. Because we are busy achieving more and doing more, work life balance is crucial for any functional work environment where talent retention is a goal. Based on the unique dynamics of your organization, consider the following to successfully increase work life integration.

  • Providing remote/flex day options

  • Reducing or eliminating after work hour emails or phone calls

  • Allowing flexibility in an individual’s work hours

  • Discouraging work lunches to allow employee decompression and break time.

This is what I do for my team and leaders that I develop. When you fuel a powerful work culture you super charge your entire vision and are unstoppable.
